2009 in Review
Here are the things that happened in 2009, our accomplishments, failures and our targets for the coming 2010.
1. We obviously have lost more this year. Our total score was 24W-36L-3D. These fights includes hackfights, derbies and tupada which all gamefowls were conditioned and fought by us. Unfortunately, most of our losses were the money fights so obviously we've lost more because of that. The target for next year is to improve our WINNING PERCENTAGE!!.
2. Most of the fowls we fought our from friends and relatives which we have acquired. Only about 30% of our total fights are products of our own breeding. For next year, the main target is to only fight our breeding produce and limit or further avoid acquiring battlefowls for our fights.
3. In 2009, we became a member of Batangas Breeders Club (BBC) which we were banded a total of 75 BBC stags and 75 Bakbakan stags. On our very first entry to the BBC 7-stag derby, we scored 1W-2L on our elimination. We fought late January born stags which we were at a great disadvantage on the age of our stags. We have learned our lesson painfully and that is to fight only BBC banded stags for this BBC stag derby. So the target for next year is to produce more December born stags to be fought exclusively for this stag derby. We were not able to join this year's 10-stag Bakbakan derby because of only few qualified stags were left for us to choose from. Next year, hopefully we can finally join that prestigious stag derby.
4. Early this year (February to May), we have renovated our farm in order to be more like a true gamefarm. We have made our pit (ruweda) bigger and added more lights. New keeping stalls (22-door stall plus 3 separate 2-door stalls) beside the pit were also made to accomodate the growing number of fowls in the farm. Two flypens and one small indoor range was also constructed around the pit. Six door scratchpens was also made to have more room when conditioning our fowls using the scratchpens. On the cording area, bamboo teepees were replaced by 42 concrete teepees. Also an additional of 100 rubber teepees were also added this December in anticipation of more stags next year. A stag range area was also constructed last summer to have more control over the stags ranging all over the farm. For 2010, the target is to add new keeping stalls and hopefully renovate our main house in the farm.
5. This year, new breeding materials were also acquired for the 2010 season. We have acquired a total of 6 broodcocks and 5 broodhens to boost the quality of our gamefowls in the farm. As of today (December 31), we already have about 142 chicks for the BBC stag season and 120+ eggs in the incubator for the Bakbakan stag season. Hopefully we will produce more stags next year so as to reach our goal stated on item #2. In 2009, we have produced a total of 53 stags. Our set target is about 100-150 corded stags for 2010.
6. In August of this year, we have added a new feeder/handler (Ente) to our team to further strengthen the workforce in the farm. Then late October, our main handler (Eloy) wanted to move on and work to a company in Sto. Tomas so as to prepare for his plan to work abroad in the future. So in November, our new main handler (JR) was added to the team to further build a stronger team.
7. Also, new personalized knives were also acquired and produced to be used in our fights. Currently we have about 12 personalized knives using our personal knife design. In 2010, we aim to add new knives and complete our set of knives so as to be very competitive regarding knives used in the actual fights.
Overall, 2009 was a year of new learnings and changes for us. In general we have more losses than wins in our fights but we have truly won in the facilities/breeding stocks/handlers that were newly created and added in the farm. Hopefully in 2010 all of that will come together and give us the WINS, GLORY, FUN and EXCITEMENT the whole team and group are always looking for.
So for all our friends and visitors on this site, we wish all of you a
Happy and Prosperous New Year for all of us. More Wins and Friendships in 2010!
